Taylor's, the Port house of Taylor, Fladgate & Yeatman was established in 1692 by Job Bearsley. Taylor's were also the first British firm to purchase vineyards in the Douro Valley. The current name of Taylor, Fladgate & Yeatman is derived from subsequent partners in the firm, these being Joseph Taylor, who joined in 1816, well over a century after the firm's inception, John Fladgate who joined in 1837, and Morgan Yeatman who joined in 1844.

Vintage Ports come from a single harvest and have exceptional organoleptic characteristics, showing a dark red colour, a great structure and intense fruity aromas and flavours. They are bottled two years after the harvest and in most cases spend many years maturing in the bottle. Through this ageing process Vintage Ports are kept away from the influence of the atmosphere, which makes them loose their colour very slowly and retain their typical fruitness.

The quality potential at Vesuvio was always present in 2005, and despite the pronounced drought, the very good flowering and fruit set earlier in the year played a key role in maintaining yields. What turned an otherwise indifferent year into a very good one was the unexpectedly large proportion of vines that were still receptive to the huge benefits provided by the rain in early September. The phenolic ripeness achieved contributed to the production of very fine wines with a deep, purple-black colour and lifted scented aromas.
